fall / neozoe
risograph-printed book
2016, ca. 41x28cm
neozoon is a biological term for a species living in an habitat it is not native to.
In this case, it refers to humans.
This work examines ancient practices of arts, crafts and image-making as both requiring and furthering a separation, and therefore being a watershed in the construction of a human/nature dichotomy - exploring Image-making as a potential act of (re)connection and alienation at the same time.
Despite and because of anxieties that also affect the act of drawing itself
drawing became the medium of exploration and expression,
an initial narration giving way to an evolving composition of reccuring motives, changing between immersion and far distance, taking and giving space from and to the unconscious,
approaching the relation towards the outer environment and other beings, which is characterized by a deep longing and attachment and an insuperable distance as well as other alleged ambivalences.
The examined stranger habitat that I, as a human, have to live in being my inner and interlinked environments, including my own human mind and feelings,
and an environment that we didn't newly arrive in, but estranged ourselves from.
